Site Director and Programme Lead
Prof. Walter Kolch
Walter is the Site Director and Programme Lead of the ABE Ireland programme. He is Director of Systems Biology Ireland at University College Dublin and the Precision Oncology Ireland Consortium. He is best known for his research on cancer and precision medicine. Walter strongly believes that science is a public good that should be shared. Therefore, he has led and participated in many public outreach and engagement programs, with the Amgen Biotech Experience being a highlight.
Site Coordinator and Lab Technician
Ananya Ramesh
Ananya is the Programme Coordinator for the ABE Ireland programme site. In this role, she leads the implementation of the programme’s curriculum and resources in secondary schools, supports educators through high-quality professional development, and ensures schools have access to research-grade biotechnology equipment. She works closely with key stakeholders to promote the programme and evaluates its educational impact to support continuous improvement. Ananya also works with the lab technician and is responsible for overseeing the preparation and packing of materials for all kit loans, ensuring schools receive everything they need for successful delivery.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and a Master’s degree in Biological and Biomolecular Sciences, and brings a strong passion for teaching and education to her work. You can find her on LinkedIn and X, and can reach her at ananya.ramesh@ucd.ie.
Lab Technician
Aleena Mathew
Aleena is responsible for preparing and packing our laboratory kits and supporting day-to-day lab activities at ABE Ireland. If you are borrowing a kit from us, Aleena is one of the people you will be in contact with. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology and a Master’s degree in Biological and Biomolecular Science and has a strong interest in research and quality.
