Scientific Discovery for the Classroom
In Mexico, the ABE Program is implemented in middle schools serving low-income students. These schools are located in Hidalgo, Mexico City, Morelos, the Sate of Mexico and Yucatan. The program in Mexico serves a total of 23 schools, 82 teachers, and 5,441 students. Participating teachers have science academic training and teach the subjects of physics, chemistry and biology in which the laboratories of the ABE Program are taught. There are three prestigious allied Universities; Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana – Iztapalapa, the Universidad Politécnica de Pachuca (UPP) in Hidalgo, and the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (UADY) in Yucatán State. Nancy Pérez and Natalia Mayen are the leaders of the program, and each state has a laboratory technician and coordinator who implement the project locally.
